What is SCOPE?

Sustainability Co-creation Programme, SCOPE, is a degree program offered in English in the Faculty of Sustainability Studies at Hosei University, established in Fall 2016. SCOPE aims to develop glocal (global plus local) citizens who can contribute to realizing a more sustainable society in the glocal environment. Learning how to engage with both global and local points of view allows for the creation of a sustainable society. Today, we face increasing challenges to maintain peaceful and prosperous societies, due to numerous factors including global environmental problems, an ever-growing world population, the globalization of economic activities and consumer behavior, as well as continuous political and religious conflicts in some regions. Now is the time we must take actions to make a new model to realize a sustainable society. In order to join forces to achieve this goal, it is imperative that students first grasp the structural mechanisms as to how various issues are related to one another, and then develop solution-oriented thinking skills. SCOPE utilizes experiential learning, research, and service activities that are essential for students to implement practical solutions for a sustainable future.
